Proposed Module - How it Works

                 The module itself is created from a standard 30’ x 8’ steel shipping container with two fiberglass inserts that allow for easy travel and delivery by truck, train and ship but also an expansion from 185.5 sqft to 525 sqft. Opening the module will be the responsibility of the truck driver. The expanding side of the module is held closed by the steel side that was removed to install the inserts. After all inserts have expanded and dropped to the same level, that steel piece now flips up and creates an awning while allowing for the porch/ramp to fall and separate. Supports and stairs, stored underneath the unit, are then placed appropriately.
                The gaps between each of the inserts wil be closed usinging a rubber piece that is cut to shape and attached to the wall and ceiling. Solar panels flip over to expose and angle them to the sunlight, gathering energy to run the module with help from small generators, if needed.
               This module provides a home for a family to continue living as a family, along with the following;
  • Kitchen unit with height adjustable sink, microwave, mini fridge, counter space and storage.
  • Bathroom equipped with a waterless toilet, shower, and a small sink inset in the wall. The bathroom is mounted on top of a black box (a container meant to hold waste) that gets lifted up into the module when it closes. This is better seen in the animation of the module opening.
  • 3 modular furniture pieces:
    • 2 of the pieces contain a loveseat, desk, shelf, and full sized bed.
    • The third piece contains a desk, additional storage and a twin sized bed.
  • 2 adjustable tables. These tables adjust in height from 10.5”-30.75”. Closed, the table is 48”x30” but is expandable up to 78”x30”. In their smaller forms, they can be used as a coffee or side table. Their maximum size works great as a dinner table.
  • Wall mounted television.
               The images above show the module in its closed and compact form, along with the module while open with day and night furniture plans.
